Possibly the most common butterfly around Islay at the minute is the Green Veined White (Artogeia napi), a butterfly found throughout Europe and Northern Africa though there is considerable variation in markings and breeding, and several subspecies are recorded. There are Large White and Small White butterflies around Islay at the minute too, which depending on gender and brood can appear very similar.
