I had a fantastic walk up this beautiful mountain yesterday and witnessed again further signs of spring: Primroses, lizards, Willow Warblers and this beetle scurrying across the bog. It's about an inch long and I think the photo's better than the last one. Any ideas anyone? (Crystal?)

It looks like a Violet Ground Beetle (Carabus violaceus), except I would have expected to see a violet sheen around the edges of the thorax and elytra. Perhaps the colour has not come out in the photo.
ReplyDeleteOn looking into this a bit more, the absence of a violet sheen suggests that it might be Carabus glabratus. I'll be interested it what the experts conclude.
