Anybody feeling peckish?

Cow poo. It's not pretty. It doesn't smell very nice. It immediately brings to mind the ITV Saturday night programming schedule. There's really not much I can say that's nice about it. If I were a Chough, however, I would love it, as it frequently contains a tasty selection of beetles and other insects. Walking the dogs around Ardnave this morning I saw plenty of cow pats with tell-tale holes in, many of which will be caused by the local Chough digging around in them with their long, thin beaks.

Chough are a real Islay speciality bird, and in Scotland they cling on desperately only here and Colonsay. Ardnave and Kilchoman are the best places to see them, though they occur in small numbers at several places on the island
