Beautiful Demoiselle

Mark and Sally Johnson sent in some wonderful photos for our competition, including this one of a Beautiful Demoiselle. I am very envious because I have been trying to photograph this beauty for some years. When I first saw this damselfy I was enraptured by its beauty; for a brief moment I thought I'd been transported to the tropics instead of Bunnahabhain because it was just so iridescent and beautiful. The photo was taken earlier in the summer, but if anybody has time during these most glorious days of late summer, get out there and look for this insect; it may still be about. It favours fast flowing rivers, so Bridgend and Bunnahabhain are good places to look.
