Any ideas what this is? Slime mould?

Martin found this goo near the burn behind Port Charlotte.  The consensus is that is a sort of Slime Mould.  Do we have any Slime Mould experts out there?

  1. It's called "star jelly" and there is much debate about what it actually is.
    See: http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/autumnwatch/2009/10/autumnwatch_unsprung_the_great.html

Personally, I think it is frog spawn jelly without the eggs inside.

  2. Follow-up comment. I posted before I had finished!
I've seen identical jelly where spawning frogs have been attacked "in the act" by, e.g., otters.
From what I've seen of slime moulds and also looking at images on the internet, it isn't that.
