Bolsa Trek

Yesterday, Lorna, Mark and I had a fantastic trek to Bolsa from Bunnahabhain, via one of the glens. It wasn't fantastic photography weather for landscapes but we saw soooooooo much wildlife - a lot of insect copulation too! I've still to identify a few spiders and insects, and I'll post those photos in due course, along with our complete list for the day (I think we beat the jubilee list!)  Meanwhile, here's a few favourites of the day.

Walk to An Cladach

I was getting so fed up of not having been out a long walk for what seems like ages to me, that I went out today, despite the drizzle and mist. I walked from Storakaig to An Cladach on the Sound of Islay. It was good, although the photos don't amount to much. I saw Golden Eagle, Raven, Skylark, Meadow and Rock Pipits, Chaffinch, Oystercatcher, Primrose, Scurvygrass, Milkwort and this, my first beetle of the year - a beautiful,  iridescent Dung Beetle.

We had a record total of 15 people on today's ramble and it was fantastic. Thanks everyone for coming and for your enthusiasm, questions and observations. I think the highlight today was the gentian spp. We saw both Field Gentian and Autumn Gentian, growing in separate areas but restricted to a couple of patches, both on tiny hillocks. Interesting. The scent emanating from the throng of Creeping Thistles was amazing - like honey, someone commented.  Any omissions or corrections, please let me know. The lists are getting longer so it's getting more difficult to remember everything!
