Carabus nitens

This time last year, Becky spotted one of these fine-looking beetles and it turned out to be a first record for Islay. Ten days later, I found one in a completely different part of the island, and today I found it again in the same place. When I say "it", I'm not really claiming it was the same beetle, but it was within a matter of yards from where I saw it (or its ancestor) last year

Becky's find of the spectacular ground beetle Carabus nitens while on a Walkislay outing has been confirmed as a first for Islay, Jura and Colonsay.  Nice one!!
