Marsh Fritillary

This Marsh Fritillary caterpillar looks as if it is about full-grown and therefore close to pupating. This might explain why it was on its own when I saw it today, though whether crawling across a track in the open is a wise way to seek a suitable pupation site is another matter. Fortunately, it got across to the other side safely, thanks to me guarding it!
