New to Islay - the Sphagnum bug Hebrus ruficeps

Thanks to Brian Nelson for bringing us this specimen of the Sphagnum Bug Hebrus ruficeps, which he found while working with the RSPB on Smaull last week.  The bug is tiny, probably less than 1mm across and our rather crude photograph was taken by putting it on a slide under a microscope with a camera attached to a monitor and then photographing the screen!!

For a rather better image check out

The species is new to Islay.
