The good thing about lichens is that, unlike birds and flowers, they're with us all year round, surviving hard frost and snow. I really like lichens, but am not very good at identifying them. Here's two that I saw on my walk today at the Lily Loch. Usnea hangs down like a beard from tree branches, but I'm not sure what the other species is. It was growing on a branch that was lying on the ground. For the enthusiast here's an excellent website:
