Although Lorna and I found this last week on Tiree, this wonderful sea spider could be seen on Islay. We have been looking for them here for years. Having found one on Tiree, it seemed too good an opportunity to miss posting!
What species do you think it is? If it is the delightfully named Gangly Lancer (Nymphon gracile), which seems to fit with other photos online, then there is just a 1982 record of it taken from sampling carried out between Portnahaven and Orsay island. According to NBN there are no Tiree records, but I suspect that may not mean much.
I love the way it moves with such delicacy, and on macro shots, its tiny red veins are visible. I wonder why none have been seen on Islay. Lorna
