Sciapus platypterus and Small Pearl Bordered Fritillary

Thanks to Fiona McGillivray for these pictures, taken yesterday at Tarbert, Jura - and for the ID of the beautiful fly which obligingly landed on her finger! The butterfly looks like a Small Pearl Bordered Fritillary, which is a lovely record.

    It almost goes without saying that this is a new record for Jura and has never been recorded for either Islay or Colonsay. Well donee, Fiona.

    Lovely little dolichopodid fly - a male with the two broadened white tarsal segments showing really well - what camera did you use for such a great shot? - Peter Roberts
