Does anybody know what this is?



Because I have not got a clue...  Some sort of Lichen?  A funghi?  It is growing on a mossy log next to the Sorn....

    It looks similar to the Lobaria seen here (scroll down)?

    Probably wrong, but maybe a pointer in the right direction!

    It's a lichen, very probably Peltigera membranacea. There are several in the genus, but this one has the tiny downward projecting strands which act like roots - called rhizinae

    I've seen this lichen lots of time, but never thought to look underneath it. Those root things are amazing. Thanks for posting Carl.
