Crepuscular creatures
This is one of the bat boxes up around the woodland trail at Loch Gruinart reserve. There are 4 types of bat recorded on Islay - Pipistrelle, Common Long-eared, Daubenton's and Natterer's. However, records are very thin for all these species here, and not a great deal is known about their numbers or locations. The Trust is hoping to buy a bat detector in the Spring, so should you see a group of peculiar looking men and women lurking suspiciously in the dark, don't call the police immediately, it may well be us trying to figure out how to work the thing...
As per usual, we would welcome any records or sightings, and if anyone knows of any good bat locations on the island, we'd be delighted to hear from you
